1. Pár mondatban írd le, hogy mivel foglalkozol!
I have been making handmade glass beads for six years now. I
create glass beads of unique colour, shape and pattern from glass rods using a
gas burner. I am overwhelmed by the beauty of glass melting in the flame and
the ability to make whatever I want from it.
2. Miért pont ezt az anyagot választottad?
Why did you choose these material(s) in particular?
I have been making bead jewellery before and I was looking for
extraordinary material to make them. The enormous freedom of this technique is what has
drawn me to flamework glass beads. Besides, glass is an interesting and
long-lasting material.
I have been involved in creative activities ever since I was a
child. I like to have handmade things around me, in my home and in my
environment. I have made my first beads in 2005, but my enthusiasm peaked after
an exhibition during our two-year long stay abroad. I have bought the starting
kit then, practiced daily, at that time still in a bathroom. But I felt I could
be myself in this art. I could express my feelings and moods through
colours.
4. Honnan merítesz ötleteket, inspirációt?
Where do you get ideas, inspiration from?
Ideas and inspiration primarily come via colours. This may be a
nice garden or a blossoming tree, but even a fence or a different type of composition.
I have always been looking for the harmony of colours, I like putting the glass
rods next to each other to prepare a mood.
5. Mi a "civil" foglalkozásod?
Civil foglalkozásomat tekintve gépészmérnök vagyok,
1998-ban végeztem a Műegyetemen.
What is your „civil” profession?
6. Van még ezen kívül hobbid, kedvenc időtöltésed?
Minden alkotás érdekel amivel szebbé, egyedibbé tehetem a
mindennapjainkat. Szeretek kötni, varrni, ezt elsősorban a gyerekeim
élvezhetik. Szívesen futok és olvasok.
What do you do in your free time?
I like doing things that make our everyday lives more beautiful,
more unique. I like knitting, sewing, but I also like to read and run.
7. Hogy néz ki egy munkanapod? Mikor dolgozol? Van külön
műhelyed?
What does your work process look like? When, where do you
work?
A work day is still a vague concept for me, since I am trying to
create at home, having my four children around. The work therefore usually
starts late in the night, but there are smaller processes during the day, too.
There are glass beads all around the house – some wait to be cleaned, taken
photos of, others are packed and ready to be posted. I am lucky to have my own
workshop, which is important because of the children. Flame and glass are not
toys, and they respect this. Moreover, the gas burner, the kiln and the raw
materials require a large space, so I needed a creative kingdom of my own.
8. Hogy néz ki egy munkafolyamat?
What does your work process look like?
There are always ideas to be implemented in my head. If I have
time, I make notes and draw drafts. Preparation is also great joy, I place
glass rods next to each other. First I place the glass on a metal wand dipped
into bead release liquid, this is how the beads are created. Glass melts at
several hundred or even thousand degrees to the point where it can be formed
and rolled as wanted. For each new colour or pattern I use a new rod. Creating
a more complex bead may take up even an hour. After that, they are put into a
digitally controlled kiln where they are cooled for up to 5 hours to room
temperature, so that there is no tension in them that may cause breaking. After
taking off the beads from the wand, I clean the holes with a diamond grill. Jewellery composition comes after this. I also place great emphasis on the photo, although it means a
lot of work for me, but many customers buy from me choosing solely from a
photo.
9. Mi a marketing stratégiád?
Hiszem, hogy elégedett vásárlókra kell törekedni, akik
minden ismerősnek ajánlják az ékszereimet. Mindig hosszú távon gondolkodtam,
kifogástalan jó minőségű alapanyagokból dolgozom. Rugalmasan, türelmesen
próbálok valamennyi kívánságnak, rendelésnek eleget tenni és évek óta
visszatérő, elégedett vásárlóim vannak.
Fontos hogy többféle csatornán próbáljunk értékesíteni. A
Igyekszem
e kettő egyensúlyát megteremteni.
What is your marketing strategy?
I believe I have to strive to have satisfied customers, who will
then recommend me to their friends. I have always planned for the long run, and
made unique pieces of jewellery of excellent quality. I am flexible and I try
to satisfy all kinds of requests and orders, so I have customers who have been
returning to me for years.
I think it is important to sell our goods in several ways.
Personal contact is vital, but fairs take long days from our lives. Internet
and online selling, where we just upload our products to a webshop are more
comfortable. I try to balance these two ways of selling.
I also try to be there on as many events as possible, primarily
in Budapest. One can also find my jewellery in my Meska shop.
Az alkotás mindenképpen hobbinak indult. De a szerelem
egyre erősödött, úgyhogy komolyabb terveket szőttem. Elvégeztem egy fémműves
képzést, ahol szerelembe estem az ezüsttel is. Szeretem e két nemes anyag
szerves összhangját.
Hobby or main source of income?
Creating started out as a hobby, but my love for it grew each
day, so I started making more serious plans. I have finished a metallurgist
course, where I fell in love with silver, too. I cherish the organic harmony of
these two precious materials.
11. Mik a terveid a jövőre nézve?
Plans for the future?
I would like to continue creating, with an honest heart, with enthusiasm and lots of ideas, I would like to promote my brand, Móró Barbara Glass & Silver, make it more popular, so that more people can have high quality unique jewellery. I aim at teaching people to create marvels from glass.

If you are curious about the miracle I get to experience
every day, join me on www.facebook.com/Morobarbaraglass. If you are interested in the technique, my fellow-author (Borbála Hídvégi) and I published a book in 2011, Lámpaláz, which presents the
technique with multiple illustrations.
